Prime IMnister Lt-Gen. Soe Win cordially welcomes Mr. Chen Haosu and Delegation

On the afternoon of Dec. 21st, 2004, Prime Minister Lt-Gen. Soe Win of the Union of Myanmar received Mr. Chen Haosu, President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and delegation. Ambassador Li Jinjun and Counselor Yu Boren of the Chinese Embassy were also at present.

The meeting is at warm and friendly atmosphere. Prime Minister Lt-Gen. Soe Win welcomed Mr. Chen and delegation and said that the traditional PaukPhaw friendship between China and Myanmar could be traced back to very ancient times. Marshal Chen Yi (father of Mr. Chen Haosu) ever visited Myanmar 9 times and his name is widely known to every Myanmar household. This time the visit could be regarded as inheriting the great course of Sino-Myanmar friendship from the previous generation. Mr. Chen said that this very first visit to Myanmar had made his wish come true as a 10th visit on behalf of his father. In talks, the two sides sang high praise for the development of bilateral relations in recent years and discussed other issues of common interest.

On the same day, Brig-Gen. Aung Thein Lynn, Mayor of Yangon and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee received Mr. Chen Haosu and delegation. The Mayor expressed thanks to the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries for inviting him to visit China last year. He briefed the delegation about the city planning and municipal construction of Yangon on water supply systems upgrading, trees planting, roads construction and big lake beauty spot construction etc., and said that Yangon could learn from the valuable experience of Beijing, Shanghai, Da Lian and other Chinese cities in their municipal construction and environmental protection. Mr. Chen Haosu thanked the Mayor for all the arrangements made for his visit, and highly praised the achievements of Yangon municipal construction and environment beautification.
