CPLA Delegation Visits Myanmar

General Maung Aye & Lieutenant-General Sun Zhiqiang

A Chinese delegation led by Lieutenant-General Sun Zhiqiang, Deputy Chief of the General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China arrived in Yangon on the evening of December 15th 2004 to pay a 4-day visit to Myanmar. The delegation was warmly welcomed at the Yangon International Airport by Member of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Quartermaster-General Lt-General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and

senior military officers from Myanmar Air Force, Navy and Ministry of Defense.

Vice-Chairman of SPDC, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Maung Aye cordially received Lt-General Sun Zhiqiang and party at Zeyathiri Beikman Hall on Konmyinttha on the morning of December 16th. Present at the call were SPDC members Lt-Gen. Aung Htwe, Lt-Gen. Khin Maung Than, Lt-Gen. Maung Bo, Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and Lt-Gen. Tin Aye, Yangon Command Commander Maj-Gen. Myint Swe, senior military officers aw well as Chinese Ambassador Li Jinjun and Embassy officials. Later, Lt-General Sun Zhiqiang held frank and honest talks with Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo. In the evening, Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo hosted a dinner to Lt-General Sun Zhiqiang and party at Karaweik Palace of Kandawgyi Lake. Before and during the dinner, artistes entertained the delegation members with Myanmar traditional dances, marionettes and acrobatics which show the essence and special glamour of Myanmar culture. After the dinner, the delegation enjoyed beautiful scene of the Yangon city in the night-breeze by the side of the Kandawgyi Lake. In Yangon, the delegation also visited Defense Services Historical Museum, Drugs Elimination Museum and world-famous Shwedagon Pagoda.

The Chinese delegation also went to the eastern part of the country by special flight to visit Inlay Lake, Taunggyi Mountain and silk weaving factory. The Eastern Command Commander Maj-Gen. Khin Maung Myint received the delegation there.

On the evening before the departure, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Li Jinjun hosted a dinner in honor of Lt-Gen. Sun Zhiqiang and party. Quartermaster-General Lt-General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and senior military officers from Myanmar Air Force, Navy and Ministry of Defense attended the dinner. The two sides sang high praise for the traditional fraternal friendship between the two countries and armed forces.

The delegation concluded the visit and left Yangon on the afternoon of December 19th by China Airlines. Quartermaster-General Lt-General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and senior military officers from Myanmar Air Force, Navy and Ministry of Defense as well as Chinese Ambassador Li Jinjun, Military Attache Senior Col. Ma Shoudong and Embassy officials saw them off at the Yangon International Airport.
