2018/05/13

On 12 May 2018, an armed conflict broke out between the Myanmar armed forces/police and a few EAOs in Muse Township, Northern Myanmar, which is close to the China-Myanmar border. The conflict caused the casualties of Myanmar people, some Myanmar inhabitants in the border area fled into the Chinese territory and some stray bullets were landed in the Chinese territory .

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar condemns the violent incident and has been deeply saddened by the injuries and death of the innocent people. The Chinese side has launched solemn representations with relevant authorities of Myanmar, urging the parties concerned to exercise restraint for an immediate ceasefire and take concrete and effective measures to prevent the worsening of the situation and more casualties, so as to resume peace and stability in the China-Myanmar border area, ensuring life and property safety of the two countries' inhabitants in the border area.

At present, relevant parties in Myanmar are actively preparing for the third "Union Peace Conference--21st Century Panglong" and the Chinese side has been providing assistance in this regard based on the needs of the Myanmar side. We firmly oppose any attempt to undermine peace and stability along the China-Myanmar border and any act deliberately obstructing the Myanmar peace process. We call for all parties concerned to enhance dialogue, promote mutual trust, and move forward in the same direction, playing a due constructive role in promoting national reconciliation and Myanmar peace process.
