Introduction of Visa for the People's Republic of China (mainland)

1. Application procedures

(1) Fill out the visa application form online (cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn), print out the confirmation page and full form(8 pages in total), and sign the confirmation page and item 9 of the form.

(2) Walk in the Consular Hall without online appointment from 8:30-11:00 a.m. Monday to Friday (except for holidays).Submit the application in person with documents (Please see Part 2 and Part 3)at the Chinese Embassy in Yangonand retain ten fingerprints.

*The following applicants can be exempt from fingerprint collection: 

a. Applicants under the age of 14 or over 70;

b. Diplomatic passport holders, or applicants eligible for Diplomatic, Official and Courtesy visas; 

c. Applicants who already had their fingerprints collected within the past five years at the Chinese Embassywith the same passport;

d. Applicants with all fingers uncollectible;

e. From 9 August, 2023 to 31 December, 2024, eligible applicants can be exempt from fingerprints collection who apply for one or two entry visas for business, tourism, short-term visits, transit and crew purposes.

    2.Basic documents

(1) Application form completed online (print-out of the entire form);

(2) Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and 3 blank visa pages, and photocopy of the information page, observations page, the previous Chinese visa page and the previous foreigner’s residence permit page;

(3) Original ID card and photocopy of both sides;

(4) Certificate of lawful stay or residence permit in Myanmar (for citizens of other countries who are in Myanmar);

(5) Original Chinese passport or original Chinese visa (for those who had Chinese nationality and later joined a foreign nationality);

(6) Two recently-taken color photo against a white background of 2 inches (size: 48mm×33mm) without a crown, which should be pasted on the Confirmation of Online Visa Application page and the first page of Visa Application Form respectively.

Issued to foreign crew members of means of international transportation, including aircraft, trains and ships, or motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships.

A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China

D

Issued to those who intend to reside in China permanently.

The original and photocopy of the Confirmation Form for Foreigners Permanent Residence Status issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China.

F

Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other activities.

1.An invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China;

2.Employment Certificate:issued by the company or association, should contain: the applicant’s name, occupation, position, company/association seal and signature of the person in charge.

G

Issued to seafarers who intend to board in China

1.Original and copies of SD, CDC, SID;

2.Guarantee letter issued by the owner of the vessel to board;

3.Recommendation letter issued by the crew’ employer.

Issued to those who intend to transit through China.

An onward air (train or ship) ticket with confirmed date and seat to the destination country or region.

J1

Issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended durationof stay in China exceeds 180 days.

Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or other authorized units in China and an official letter issued by the media organization for which the journalist works.

J2

Issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage.The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

L

Issued to those who go to China for tourism.

Round-trip air tickets and hotel orders or invitation letters issued by Chinese travel agencies or individuals (a photocopy of the ID of the inviting individual needs be attached).

For the first time to apply, proof of property is required(choose one):

*Bank deposit: Balance Certificate and the original bank passbook (with a deposit notless than 2 million kyats, valid not less than 3 months);

*Income Proof: issued by the company or association, should contain: occupation,salary, company seal and signature of the person in charge; original and copy of Company License Certificate (including company profile).

M

Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.

1.Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation or other invitation letters issued by relevant entity or individual. 

2.Employment Certificate:

*If self-employed, original and copy of Company License Certificate (including company profile) are required;

*If work for a employer, beside the documents mentioned above, an employment certificate issued by the employer with applicant’s name, occupation, company seal and signature of the person in charge is required.

To apply for a multiple-entry M visa, applicant should have traveled to China at least 3 times with Mvisaand should not have bad records. The copies of previous visas are required.

Q1

Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence permit and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law. 

1. An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China.

2. Photocopy of Chinese ID of the inviting individual or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.

3. Original and a photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual.

To apply for a multiple-entry Q2 visa, applicant should be foreign Chinese whose birthplace on the passport is China and their spouse and child,or the spouse or child of a Chinese citizen.

Q2

Issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

R

Issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China.

The applicant should submit relevant certification in accordance with relevant regulations, and meet the relevant requirements of the competent authorities of the Chinese government on high-level talents and individual with special skills urgently needed by China.

S1

Issued to those who intend to go to China to visit the foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law, or to those who intend to go to China for other private affairs. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

For visiting family members, the following documents are required:

1. An invitation letter issued by the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies;

2. A photocopy of the inviting individual's (a foreigner who stays or lives in China for work or studies) passport and residence permit;

3.Original and a photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of immediate family members between applicants and inviting individual.

For private affairs, documentation identifying the nature of the private affairs should be provided as required by the consular officer.

S2

Issued to those who intend to visit their family members who are foreigners working or studying in China, or to those who intend to go to China for other private matters. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

X1

Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days.

1. Original and photocopy of the Admission Letter issued by a school or other entities in China.

2. Original and photocopy of "Visa Application for Study in China" (Form JW201 or Form JW202, for students enrolled in higher education institutions) or "Confirmation Form for Elementary Stage Students Study in China" (for students enrolled in primary and secondary schools).

X2

Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.

1. Original and photocopy of Admission Notice issued by a school or other entities in China.

2. Copy of the permit for running school in China.

Z

Issued to those who intend to work in China.

For work: “Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit” or the original and photocopy of “Foreigner's Work Permit”.

For short-term commercial performances:

1. Original and copy of the approval issued by Chinese cultural department;

2. Original and copy of “Short-term Work Certificate for Foreigners in China”.

Special Reminder

1. The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but the consular officer may require the applicant to submit the original of the invitation letter.

The invitation letter should contain:

a. Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)

b. Information on the visit (purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, arrival and departure dates, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures)

c. Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of legal representative or the inviting individual, etc.)

2.Applicants under 18 years old need to provide:

a. A letter of consent by applicant’s parents which shall be written in English and signed by parents, notarized by Myanmar notary authority;

b. Copies of parents’ ID.

c. Original and copy of certification of family relation such as Birth Certificate or Household Register.

3. If necessary, the consular officer may require the applicant to provide other proof documents or supplementary materials, or require an interview with the applicant.

4. The consular officer will decide on whether or not to issue the visa and on its validity, duration of stay and number of entries in light of specific conditions of the applicant.

* The above processing time is general, some applications may take longer to process. In such cases, applicants need to wait for notification from the embassy.

According to the principle of equivalent, Visa fees for non-Myanmar citizens may be different. The exact amount will be noticed on the pick-up form.
